writing

Poetry forms the base of Bradley’s artistry, evidently woven through their songwriting and performance texts.

Writing poetry was their earliest venture into art-making, and they now regularly perform at local venues.

They approach writing as both a sonic and visual art, creating work with a perspective that it will either be heard or seen, and crafting in accordance to this.

Recently, they have been leading poetry-writing workshops, under the banner of Tasseomancy, one of Glasgow’s most iconic poetry nights.

sonic

In 2022, Bradley won the ECG Poetry Competition with their original piece “In the Busy Silence,” which was then featured on the Field Ramble podcast alongside an original score by Spencer Mason.

I am tired is a spoken word poem compiling every “I am…” statement from Bradley’s poetry, playing with notions of identity

visual

Bradley approaches writing as a visual practice as well as a sonic art, exploring mark-making, redaction, and sensorial interpretations of text.  This is taken from their first exploration with creative redaction as a method of exploring tender parts of their autobiography, taking pages from their journal and marring them to obscure a reader’s ability to read each detail.

almost blue was a deeply personal work, so when asked to create a performance score of the work, Bradley used handwritten repetition to obscure a reader’s ability to read the texts ‘normally.’  Instead they introduce the score with the provocation: “if you can’t read it, change it,” inviting reader’s to create their own work from this as a stimulus.
